For months, Advocates for a Safe Water System and others have been urging Governor Tomblin to make an appointment to the Public Service Commission so that the investigation into West Virginia American Water's response to the January 2014 chemical leak can finally continue.
On Friday, Tomblin responded to ratepayer pressure and appointed Kara Cunningham Williams to the Public Service Commission, effective immediately. Ms. Williams is a former attorney with Steptoe & Johnson. We don't know much about her, but she appears to be independent of West Virginia's major utility interests.
We hope Commissioner Williams will be an independent voice standing up for West Virginians on the Public Service Commission.
